The Deschutes River runs right past the back deck at River Bend Big Sky, and you'll hear it long before you see it. Tall ponderosa pines wrap around the house, there isn't a neighbor in sight, and at night the only real sound is moving water. You get your own private stretch of river and genuine seclusion, yet the Old Mill District is only 6 miles away when you're ready for shopping, riverside dining, or a night out in Bend.
The main living room has vaulted ceilings, skylights, a stone fireplace, and tall windows that look straight out to the river. A deep sectional makes it an easy place to land after a day outside. The kitchen is set up for a group, with granite counters, stainless appliances, and a large island with bar seating so people can gather while someone cooks. Meals happen at the dining table under an iron chandelier, with the forest filling the windows behind it.
Every bedroom has its own view of the river and its own access to a deck. The primary suite has a king bed and a private bath with a soaking tub set beside a window and a glass-enclosed shower. Two more bedrooms each have a king, including one on the lower level. The fourth bedroom has a twin bed with a twin trundle, a good fit for kids or flexible sleeping, and the fifth has a queen. Three full bathrooms and a half bath keep mornings moving for up to 12 guests.
Downstairs, the entertainment room is a big, relaxed space with a TV, a sectional, built-in shelves, and a game table for cards or board games that run late. The wood-lined sauna is down here too, and it's exactly what you want after a cold day on the mountain.
Outside, large decks stretch across both levels of the house. Take your coffee out in the morning, watch the light change on the water in the evening, and follow the path down to the river whenever you like. From October through May, the firepit beside the river is yours to use, and on clear nights the sky over the pines is hard to beat.
Each season gives you a different reason to be here. In winter, Mt. Bachelor is about 30 minutes west for skiing and snowboarding. In summer, the Cascade Lakes Highway opens up for boating and paddleboarding on the high lakes, and Riverbend Park is about 15 minutes away, where you can put in and float the Deschutes through the Old Mill District and down to Drake Park. Right across from the house is Good Dog Park, roughly 700 acres of protected public land within the Deschutes National Forest, with trails for hiking, mountain biking, and long walks with the dog.
Downtown Bend is a short drive for restaurants and shops, and the Old Mill District is 6 miles away, adding more shopping and dining along with summer concerts at Hayden Homes Amphitheater. Pilot Butte is a favorite for a sunset hike to the top of an extinct volcano, and the High Desert Museum, just south of town, has live wildlife exhibits and a good look at the region's history.
