Most Tahoe rentals get you near the mountain. This one puts you inside it. Timberline Basecamp is a six-bedroom timber cabin within the Northstar resort community, perched above Martis Valley about halfway between historic downtown Truckee and the Lake Tahoe beaches at Kings Beach. Skiing, golf, lift-served mountain biking, and miles of trails all start minutes from the driveway, which is exactly what a basecamp is for.
Come ski season, the logistics handle themselves. Northstar's on-call shuttle picks up and drops off right at the door, so the whole group gets to the lifts without shuffling cars or circling for parking. And when the last run is done, the seven-person hot tub on the top deck is waiting, steam rising over Martis Valley while the day gets retold.
Inside, the cabin leans into its setting: wood-plank ceilings, exposed beams, and a stone fireplace anchoring the living room, with big windows pulling the valley in. The open main level connects the living space, a full kitchen with counter seating, and a dining table for eight, so nobody cooks alone or eats in shifts. Four smart TVs are spread through the house, and the downstairs game room settles the after-dinner question with a pool table, shuffleboard, darts, a TV of its own, and a pile of bean bags for spectators, plus a bar nook with stools for whoever's keeping score.
Six bedrooms hold nine beds and sleep up to 17 guests (14 plus children under 13). The main-level primary pairs a Cal king with an ensuite bath and private access to the back deck. Downstairs, two king rooms open onto the lower deck, joined by a queen room, a twin room, and a bunk room stacked with four queens and its own TV. Three and a half baths keep mornings moving, a washer and dryer handles ski layers and beach towels alike, and a gear bench at the entry gives wet boots and helmets somewhere to land on snow days.
Each floor has its own furnished deck, with lounge seating, the valley beyond the rail, and lights for lingering after dark. The top deck holds the hot tub, the lower levels hold the loungers, and the Weber gas grill comes with two propane tanks, so dinner outside is always on the table. Guests also have access to the community pool and spa nearby.
When you're ready to roam, Northstar's village, lifts, and golf course are just up the road, downtown Truckee's brick main street is about 15 minutes one way, and a swim in Lake Tahoe is about 15 minutes the other. Reno-Tahoe International Airport is roughly an hour's drive, and the garage and driveway hold up to four vehicles (street parking is not permitted).
