Tucked into a quiet pocket of Isle of Palms, 55 Pelican Bay is the kind of beach house that makes you forget what day it is. A private community path leads to the sand in under two minutes --- and not just any stretch of beach. This is where the island bends, forming a wide, sweeping point with surf on two sides. It's the kind of spot locals know about and guests rarely forget.
The home itself strikes a rare balance: the footprint of a proper beach house with the soul of a Lowcountry cottage. A long, deep front porch --- a nod to the historic homes of Charleston, just 15 miles up the road --- sets the tone before you even walk in. Inside, shiplap walls, soft coastal colors, and thoughtfully chosen furnishings channel the classic Sullivan's Island cottages of the 1800s, updated with every modern comfort you'd actually want on vacation.
The kitchen is built for real cooking --- granite counters, stainless appliances, a Keurig for slow mornings, and room to spread out when it's time to pull together a Lowcountry boil. Dining for six flows into two counter stools, and the screened porch adds another six seats plus a bistro table for two, so meals can move wherever the breeze is best. Fire up the gas grill on the back deck, pour something cold, and settle in.
When the day winds down, four bedrooms are ready with new memory foam mattresses. The main-floor primary suite has a king bed, a flat-screen TV, and an ensuite bath with both a walk-in shower and a jetted soaking tub. Upstairs, three queen bedrooms share the second floor --- one bright and window-wrapped, one overlooking the pool, and a third tucked at the end of the hall. Two of the upstairs rooms have their own TVs, and a shared bath sits conveniently between all three.
Beyond the house, Isle of Palms delivers. Charleston's historic district is a 20-minute drive for a day of carriage tours and She Crab soup. Sullivan's Island is a few minutes the other direction for Poe's Tavern and a quieter stretch of sand. Shem Creek's waterfront restaurants are close enough for a sunset dinner, and the IOP Marina has everything from dolphin tours to paddleboard rentals. At the end of Lagoon Road, a public fishing dock offers a low-key way to spend a morning.

Home Truths:
You must be 25 years or older to book this home. Please note that Early Check-In (ECI) and Late Check-Out (LCO) services are not available from May to September. There is an outdoor shower available for guest use. Guests must supply their own beach/pool towels. Beach chairs/toys are not included at this property. All reservations between 4-28 nights come with a $250 beach gear credit with VaykGear.com. Guests will be able to reserve gear after booking. The Pelican Bay pool is open May-September and guests will need a pool pass. The pool is not heated. Unfortunately, pets and ESAs are not allowed in this home. If undisclosed animals are brought into the home without AvantStay's approval, there is a fine of $500 per pet. Fireplaces are not for guest use. Trailers and motorcycles are not allowed inside Wild Dunes. Guests have access to the Pelican Bay pool, and to the cafes and restaurants at Wild Dunes. Any other amenities or recreation at Wild Dunes, including golf, tennis or the spa, must be booked separately. Please note that due to natural coastal conditions, beach areas may experience periodic erosion that can affect shoreline size and accessibility. During periods of high tide, portions of the beach---or the entire beach---may be temporarily inaccessible. We are not able to guarantee identical beach conditions for future stays, and refunds or relocations will not be available due to these natural changes.
Parking Details:
Garage accommodates 1 car. Driveway accommodates 2 cars. To gain access to Wild Dunes, the guest will need a car pass. Passes will be emailed to the guest before their arrival.
All bookings over 28 days require a security deposit to be charged after booking.
