Lakesong Lodge is the kind of Tahoe house where the whole group actually fits. Four levels and roughly 4,600 square feet give everyone room to spread out, with seven bedrooms in the main house and a separate bunkhouse in the backyard that works as its own self-contained space. Kids and teens usually claim it first, though it's just as good for anyone who wants some distance from the main-house buzz.
Vaulted ceilings open up the main living areas, and there's more than one living room, so a movie in one doesn't stop a card game in another. At mealtime, a large dining table seats the full crew together. The kitchen is built for big meals, with two ovens, two stovetops, two refrigerators, and two dishwashers, and two dryers make laundry on a weeklong stay much less of a chore.
The bathrooms follow a lodge-style layout. Of the four, three are shared: two each have two toilets and three showers, and one has a toilet and two showers. The fourth, upstairs, is a private full bathroom. With six toilets and nine showers in all, getting a big group ready in the morning goes quickly.
The patio is where evenings end up. A jetted hot tub sits under a canopy of trees with seating all around, several outdoor dining areas make it easy to eat outside, and a hammock is tucked off to the side for slow afternoons. There's also a basketball court on the property, plus ping pong, foosball, and board games like Cranium and Sequence.
The location sets you up well for long summer days on the south shore. Walk up the road to Anderson's Bicycle Rental and pick up the flat bike path that connects Pope Beach, Camp Richardson, the Tallac Historic Site, and Baldwin Beach. Pope Beach is a little over a mile away, and Camp Richardson's marina, beach, lakeside dining, and horseback rides at the Corral are about five minutes by car. For dinner, Jalapeño's Taquería and Sonney's BBQ Shack are both within walking distance, and Cascade Kitchens food hall is a quick drive.
Emerald Bay is about six miles northwest on Highway 89, close enough for a morning hike down to Vikingsholm, the view from Inspiration Point, or a paddle out to Fannette Island. In the other direction, Tahoe Keys Marina is a short drive, and Heavenly Mountain Resort is about 15 minutes away in ski season.
