Isle of Palms has a way of making everything else feel far away --- and that's exactly the point. Stretching six miles along South Carolina's Lowcountry coast, this barrier island is equal parts laid-back beach town and gateway to some of the Southeast's most celebrated destinations. Staying within the gated Wild Dunes community puts you at the quieter, more residential end of that experience, and 219 D Shipwatch puts you right on the water's edge.
⠀
The open-concept layout is bright and welcoming, with enough room for the whole group to move comfortably. The dining table seats up to eight, the kitchen comes stocked with quality appliances and a coffee station to start your mornings right, and the large TV with surround sound gives you a great excuse to stay in on a rainy afternoon. When the weather cooperates --- and on Isle of Palms, it usually does --- step out onto the balcony and let the ocean do the talking. Lounge furniture, fresh salt air, and an unobstructed view of the Atlantic make this one of the best seats in the house.
⠀
Three bedrooms sleep up to eight comfortably. The primary suite features a king bed and a private ensuite bath, offering a calm retreat from the rest of the action. The second bedroom has another king, ideal for a second couple or guests who prefer their own space. The third bedroom is set up with two twin-over-twin bunk beds --- perfect for kids or a group of four --- and the property's three full bathrooms, including a shower/tub combo, keep mornings from turning into a bottleneck.
⠀
The Shipwatch complex itself is a highlight. The swimming complex is one of the largest on the island, featuring a full-size pool, a children's pool, and a travertine tile surface --- a step above your average community setup. A beach gazebo with an observation deck gives you another perch to take in the view, and the on-site playground, one of only two within Wild Dunes, keeps younger guests entertained between beach sessions.
⠀
When you're ready to explore beyond the sand, the location earns its keep. Sullivan's Island is about seven miles away, with Fort Moultrie and a strong lineup of restaurants along Middle Street. Mount Pleasant is eight miles out --- worth the short drive for Boone Hall Plantation, Shem Creek's waterfront dining, and the USS Yorktown. And Historic Charleston, consistently ranked among the top travel destinations in the country, is only about 17 miles away, with world-class restaurants, galleries, and architecture waiting at every turn.
⠀
This is Isle of Palms at its best --- beachfront, well-appointed, and perfectly positioned for however you want to spend your time.
