Mornings here start by the water. The pool sits framed by swaying palms with the canal stretching out just beyond the deck, and a covered tiki lounge holds the shade through the long middle of the afternoon. Coral Current is a South Florida hideaway in the older sense --- spacious, light-filled, and laid out so the indoors and outdoors stop being separate places.
The outdoor space is the heart of it. The BBQ and the al fresco dining table take over as the sun drops, and the tiki lounge picks up from there, with the water as the backdrop. Inside, the home keeps the same easy rhythm: a full kitchen with room to cook for the whole group, a dining table for six, and an open living area that flows from one gathering spot to the next. A pool table handles the part of the evening that calls for a little friendly competition.
Three generous bedrooms give everyone somewhere comfortable to land --- two anchored by king beds, the third by a queen, all dressed for a deep sleep after a day in the Florida sun. There are 3.5 bathrooms in total: two full and a half inside, plus a full bathroom outside, which is the kind of detail you only appreciate once you've spent an afternoon going in and out of the pool.
You're in a quiet canal neighborhood at Pompano Beach's southern edge, with the waterways out back putting you in the middle of South Florida's boating country. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is the closest thing to a home village --- a mile south, where a low-key stretch of Commercial Boulevard runs seafood counters, cafes, and ice cream shops right down to the sand, and the beach stays noticeably calmer than its neighbors. The Pompano Beach Pier is two miles north: free to walk, shaded along its length, ringed by waterfront dining, with fishing off the end for anyone who wants it. Keep going and Hillsboro Inlet Park opens up around the four-mile mark, benches and picnic tables looking straight across the water at the Hillsboro Lighthouse. Fort Lauderdale's restaurants, marinas, and nightlife sit about six miles southwest, and there's shell-collecting along the shore in either direction.
Come for the pool, stay for the salt air --- Coral Current is a launchpad for the best of the Pompano coast.
