You are minutes from the busiest resort in the Poconos, tucked into a wooded pocket of Northridge Station where the driveway ends and the noise stops.

Inside, The Hemlock opens up. The living area runs up into vaulted ceilings, the windows pull in a lot of light, and a wood-burning fireplace anchors the room for the evenings when everyone comes in cold and nobody wants to move again. The kitchen sits right in the middle of it, granite counters and a breakfast bar that faces the dining and living space, so whoever is cooking is still part of the conversation. It is a layout built for a group that actually spends time together rather than scattering to separate rooms.

Sleeping works out well for a family or two. The primary bedroom is on the ground floor with a queen, which is the room to give the grandparents or anyone who would rather not do stairs at the end of a long day. Upstairs, one bedroom has a full and a twin, the other has a full-over-twin bunk, and between the two of them the kids sort themselves out fast. Eight people fit without anyone drawing the short straw.

The rear deck is the part guests remember. It is private, it backs into woods, and it looks out toward the slopes, which means it changes completely depending on when you come. In winter it is trail lights and cold air and a coffee you drink fast. In summer it is shade, birds, and the kind of long afternoon nobody plans. Worth noting for the warm months: the home cools with ceiling fans rather than central air, and the tree cover and mountain elevation do most of the rest.

Guests also have access to the shared amenities in the community. There is an outdoor pool for the summer stretch, a fitness center, a clubhouse, tennis courts, and a playground, which covers the afternoons when the plan falls apart and everyone still needs somewhere to go.

As for what is around you, this is the heart of the Camelback ski area. The mountain is right there for skiing and snowboarding in winter and for the mountain coaster and lift rides the rest of the year. Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark runs all summer, and Aquatopia keeps the water going indoors when it is twenty degrees outside, which is the reason a lot of families book the Poconos in February in the first place. Big Pocono State Park sits on top of the mountain with views across three states on a clear day and trails that are honest work without being punishing. The Crossings Premium Outlets is a short drive for the rainy afternoon, and the restaurants, shops and small towns of the Pocono Mountains fill in everything else. It is about ninety minutes from New York City and roughly the same from Philadelphia, which is the whole appeal: you leave after work and you are on the deck by dark.
