A cedar-and-glass chalet tucked into the pines above Tahoe's east shore, Pine Cone Trail is the kind of house that makes a group loosen up the moment they walk in. Open-beam ceilings climb toward the peak, a floor-to-ceiling stone hearth anchors the great room, and windows on every side pull the forest indoors. Afternoon light moves across the wood; by evening the whole place glows.
The heart of the house is built for togetherness. A generous kitchen with a wraparound island and a second prep bar gives two or three cooks room to work without colliding, and the dining table sits right there in the open so nobody misses the conversation. Just off the main level, the game room is where the night actually happens --- a full-size pool table under a low pendant, a bar with stools pulled up, and enough space around the rails for spectators. Racks get broken, drinks get poured, somebody puts on music. It's a good room.
When you want quiet, the living room is the counterweight: deep sofas, a big screen for a ski-day movie, and that stone chimney rising through the vaulted ceiling. Note that the fireplace and the bedroom wood burner are decorative only --- the home is warmly heated throughout.
Four bedrooms sleep ten, with three full bathrooms so nobody's queuing in the morning. Upstairs, one room is set with two queen beds and another pairs a king with a queen, so families and friend groups can flex the sleeping arrangements however they like. Downstairs, a queen room and a king room offer a little more separation for guests who want to turn in early. One of the bathrooms has a jetted soaking tub set beneath a window --- after a day on the mountain, it's the amenity people end up talking about.
Outside, decks wrap the house at several levels. The main deck catches the late sun and looks straight into the treetops, with room to spread out for morning coffee or a sunset drink while the sky goes pink behind the pines. A lower patio and a horseshoe pit in the backyard keep the outdoor hours going, and the whole property backs into forest, so the soundtrack is wind and birds rather than traffic.
Skyland is one of the quieter, more established pockets on this side of the lake --- a residential neighborhood of custom homes on the Nevada shoreline, close to everything but blissfully removed from the crowds. You're minutes from the water and from Heavenly Village, where the gondola, the restaurants, and the après scene are all within a short walk of each other. Skiers have Heavenly's Nevada-side lifts practically in the neighborhood; in summer, the same terrain turns into hiking and mountain biking, with the Tahoe Rim Trail and the Flume Trail within easy reach. Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove are quick drives for paddleboarding, boat rentals, and a day on the sand, and the Stateline casinos and showrooms are right there when you want a big night out.
It's a house that works in every season --- powder days, lake days, and the long shoulder weeks in between.
