Lake Tahoe is a year-round group destination that transforms seasonally. Winter brings world-class skiing and snowboarding. Summer unlocks hiking trails, lake activities, and mountain-town entertainment. The lake itself — North America's largest alpine lake — is the stunning centerpiece of every day. Groups come for the outdoor activities and stay for the landscape. Groups book large Lake Tahoe homes because one property near the lake or the ski resort keeps everyone together, provides space to spread out after full days outside, and often includes a hot tub or sauna for the morning after active days. The skiing, hiking, and water activities are the draw — the home is the comfortable hub.
BOOK IT! I don’t even know where to begin with how awesome this place was for our group (6 of us)! The house is EXACTLY as advertised, so stylish my friend almost flipped the couch over trying to figure out where it was from (literally) haha. Every was sparkling clean! Beautiful home really. For how cold and snowed everything was when we got there the house was warm, Brita water was already filled and in the fridge, the sheets were plenty warm through the night, house was stocked with pots, pans, plates, cups and all the basics, hot tub was already on and heated for us, the room that leads towards the hot tub and sauna had a basket near the sliding door full of towels which was such a nice little added detail because we definitely forgot to bring towels down. People came and shoveled us out each day, after the first stay we started parking in the garage which was perfect since it was empty. The only negative thing I’d say about the place is the booking process was not the easiest. At 9PM we requested a different place by AVANTSTAY and it was open for the night (available on the calendar) that we wanted but they told us after 30 minutes the home was not ready for checkin we were already driving up and were losing service so becoming more concerned that we wouldn’t have an address of where to go, they sent us over three other options which definitely ranged in price, we chose one and finally got a response at 10:35, we were just sitting in truckee waiting for well over forty five minutes in a Lyft for a response with the address to where we were going so we ended up having to pay the driver quite a bit to wait with us then to further drive us as it was late, snowing, and freezing, so that definitely got the trip off to a good start it was my husbands birthday so not in a good way. Check in otherwise was fine the code worked and everything from the moment we walked in the house was fantastic! We also had an issue with wifi while we were there we called and they helped us figure it out quickly. They gave us an extra few hours for checkout as well, as our flight was delayed because of weather which was also great! We had a wonderful time here and would absolutely stay again, the 90 minute snafu the first day was definitely made up for once we got inside the house, we’ll definitely be back! Thank you so much avant- stay!
This house was great for a group of 20 since the living space is so large with lots of seating, just what you need for a large group! The location was convenient for skiing at nearby Northstar and the Safeway for groceries was also close to the home. Parking was also a breeze: the garage fits two and the driveway is large enough for more than two additional cars. I would certainly book with AvantStay again in Tahoe as their service is top notch: clear descriptions of what's provided at the home, thorough check in instructions, and good communications -- they even messaged us to make sure our cars weren't parked on the street to avoid tickets from the street plow the following morning.
However, there are a few things to know about this home that you can't tell from the photos and description, and for some groups they may be deal breakers:
All in all, a great place with great property management, but it may not be the best fit for all groups.
My family and I booked the ponderosa for a winter getaway so there were 8 of us in total (9 if you count our dog) and there was plenty of space for all of us! My favorite part about the whole process was how incredibly responsive the AvantStay team was and how they made it really easy to communicate with them throughout our stay. As far as extra touches, they had a few gifts waiting in the kitchen to welcome us and plastic saucers and sleds that we could use during our stay which I thought was fantastic.
Aside from that, the house itself was great, the master bedroom is much bigger than how it appears in the pictures and the other bedrooms (all located on the first floor) are also a good size. The backyard is a perfect size for kids / pets as most days the snow was so perfect that we didn’t even have to go to a public snow park.
There are small things that can be improved (e.g the tv was a bit slow and has some problems, small little breaks on certain pieces of furniture here and there). Also this was expected because of the pictures on the listing but the bathrooms were not as updated as the rest of the house seemed. The tile, color and appliances in the bathrooms seemed a bit out of place but that’s a small design thing. Finally the kitchen is beautiful but a bit small.
Overall a great spot with an amazingly helpful team behind it and it’s in walking / driving distance from some great sites. Great place for a family vacation!
