PGA WEST's championship courses --- including Pete Dye's Stadium Course, home of The American Express every January --- are minutes from the door, with the Nicklaus Tournament Course and the private clubhouse close behind, and SilverRock Resort about ten minutes up the road. Old Town La Quinta is a short drive for its Sunday farmers market, boutiques, and patio restaurants, and Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park sits right at the base of the mountains for an easy morning out. Hikers have the La Quinta Cove trailheads --- Cove Oasis, Bear Creek, Boo Hoff --- within fifteen minutes, best done early before the sun takes over. Push north and the valley's calendar opens up: Indian Wells Tennis Garden, where the BNP Paribas Open takes over each March, is around twenty minutes, and Empire Polo Club in Indio --- the Coachella and Stagecoach grounds --- is closer still. Palm Springs and its mid-century architecture, shops, and spas are about forty minutes northwest, and Palm Springs International Airport is a similar drive, which keeps the getting-here part simple.
