Firstly, River House is stunning! The photos on the listing are spot on. A great big old house with beautiful wide plank wood floors, soaring ceilings and great big windows everywhere with views of The Hudson River. The house was spotless when we arrived with ample, comfortable seating in all of the rooms. We were a family of 20 and never felt crowded. The 2 adjoining dinning tables had ample seating for all of us to share every meal together. The decor was lovely with a homey feel all around. Plenty of linens and towels for all guests. The beds were very comfortable and each bedroom unique and cozy.
My only critique would be the kitchen stove/oven and overall cooking space. For such a large house with a great big kitchen, cooking big meals was tight both on prep space and overall stove top space and oven quality. Also, for the price of the house, it would have been really special to have use of the multiple fireplaces.
Otherwise, we had a lovely, memorable 3 day weekend!
The chalet was absolutely gorgeous and very much as advertised! It was super spacious, very clean, and had lots of high quality appliances. The back garden was also very spacious. Although the property is located on a main road, we didn't have too much trouble with the noise of the traffic and overall we found the location quite peaceful. It is a little bit out of town, but this wasn't an issue at all since we had our cars with us and it was only about a 5-minute drive. The value for money was incredible!
The only sticking point was the fact that two of the bedrooms didn't have a door, which we knew about beforehand and which is in the property description, so this isn't a criticism but more flagging this if you're looking to book for a group of all adults. We didn't think it would be as awkward as it was, but I wouldn't recommend it if adults who might want more privacy would be staying in those bedrooms. For families with children though, it really is the perfect location!
This home is really gorgeous. The rooms are phenomenal, there is tons of space, the kitchen is stocked perfectly and the furniture is comfortable. We had more than enough space for our group of ten. I will say that based on the photos we expected the house to be on a large piece of property that was further off a main road but actually it is attached to a small shop (which is actually an amazing little store with flowers and locally made goods) and it is quite close to a road. The road doesn't get tons of car action but there is some. There is also another small house on the property that has occupants in it (who were very welcoming and warm.) This wasn't a big issue for us but it was the only thing we felt the pictures didn't quite show which is why I am making it known here. Overall, this home is magical, quiet and comfortable. It has personality and old world charm along with the conveniences that make a stay amazing like a washer and dryer and a dishwasher. I will be back!
