Central Oregon's mountain scenery and outdoor recreation — skiing and fly fishing — make it a natural gathering point for large groups. Whether it's winter skiing or summer hiking, the landscape provides a shared experience and gives groups a built-in daily rhythm. A large mountain home becomes the comfortable hub for it all. Groups prefer staying in one home in Central Oregon over booking multiple hotel rooms because they stay connected, cook together, share common spaces, and often cut nightly costs in half. That single home becomes the heart of the trip rather than just a place to sleep.
This is an amazing house! We had a great weekend here! We ended up pretty much staying at the house instead of going on adventures as everyone was so happy and comfortable. The pool was a huge hit for the kids and the hot tub was great! We couldn’t believe how warm the pool room was. We got to swim and soak in the hot tub while snow was falling outside. Our group was 6 kids and 6 adults and everyone had plenty of room to spread out and relax. The loft was another highlight for the kids and was bigger than in the pictures. It had a twin bed and trundle bed as well as a full bed and a couch and enormous tv. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a king which was great, it’s listed as a queen so that was a pleasant surprise. The upstairs master is huge, and there is also an upstairs bedroom with a queen as well. The fireplace in the living room is spectacular! So comfortable to sit by the fire and look our the huge windows while all being together. We were already looking at the calendar to see when we could come back before we had left. Another great feature is the location! Right by the fort rock park. And the street is very long and quiet for kids riding bikes up and down. Such an easy fun time with so much to do without driving anywhere. Can’t wait to come back!
We had a group trip organized for 17 friends, and this house was amazzzzing!!!
Plenty of different sleep opportunities for different group dynamics (bunks, queen beds, shared rooms), plenty of space around the table for shared meals, great kitchen for cooking breakfast, and plenty of hang-out spots for everyone to wind down together in the evenings!
The facilities were great - a very friendly snowplow and driver arrived one morning as we were digging our cars out, which meant our day started without a hitch! Additionally, the hosts were super responsive, answering my questions about trash and maintenance incredibly quickly.
The only /very minor/ downsides were - The house was about a 40 minute drive from Mt Bachelor. We knew about that going into it, so we had carpool plans for days up on the mountain - very manageable. Additionally, when all 17 of us got home at the same time and showered, the hot water struggled to get us all through. I would recommend giving more time in between each shower to allow the hot water system time to catch up.
Overall, we'd rank this accommodation a hundred out of ten, we'd love to check out more Avant properties!!!!
The Gem Estate is beautiful and thoughtfully equipped. We had a group of 9 adults and 2 dogs, and everyone had plenty of space. There were a ton of fun activities provided, so many in fact that we didn’t have time for them all!
There were a few things that could have been improved. When we arrived, the garbage can was filled to the brim, which wasn’t the best first impression, especially given the fact that taking out the trash was one of the two simple check-out instructions. We were really excited about the cold plunge, but it was filled when we arrived and the water was dirty and had debris. The water was shut off to the nearby hose, so we couldn’t refill it. The customer service person we contacted said they’d try to have someone come out the next morning to fill it, but that never happened. We did a lot of cooking during our stay, and while the kitchen was well-equipped, the knives were incredibly dull.
All in all, we had a great time despite the couple of inconveniences.
