Mountainview Ridge Retreat sits high on a ridge above Fairview, where the Blue Ridge Mountains stretch out in layers past the deck railing. Big windows and vaulted wood ceilings keep that view in front of you from nearly every room, and downtown Asheville is still only about 20 minutes away when you want a night in town.
The main living area is open and full of light, with a stone fireplace rising to the peak of the ceiling and a wall of glass facing the mountains. The full kitchen sits right alongside, with a granite island, a breakfast bar with stools, and a dining table with room for the group, so whoever is cooking never misses the conversation. Step out to the deck for coffee at sunrise or an outdoor dinner as the ridgelines turn gold.
Downstairs is a second living space and the spot everyone drifts toward after dinner. A pool table and a ping-pong table share the room with a big sectional, a TV, and another stone fireplace, plus its own row of windows looking out at the view. A laundry room makes longer stays and muddy trail days easy to manage.
Six bedrooms sleep 12. The primary suite on the second floor has a king bed, and two more bedrooms also have kings, which makes the house an easy fit for a few couples traveling together. Two bedrooms have queens, and a room with two twin beds works well for kids or friends who don't mind sharing. Three full bathrooms and a half bath keep mornings moving, and you'll find a clawfoot soaking tub in one bath and a freestanding tub in another.
Outside, the hot tub on the deck is the natural end to a day of hiking, and the fire pit sits at the edge of the yard with Adirondack chairs turned toward the mountains. It's the kind of place where the evening plan is mostly watching the light fade.
Fairview is the quieter side of the Asheville area, with farmland, forested hills, and long-range views in every direction. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a short drive, Bearwallow Mountain's summit trail is close by, and Chimney Rock and Lake Lure make an easy day trip down through Hickory Nut Gorge. Biltmore and downtown Asheville's restaurants, galleries, and live music are about 20 to 25 minutes out, and Asheville Regional Airport is roughly half an hour away.
A note on getting here: the last half mile is a single-lane gravel road that climbs about 400 feet to the house. That climb is what earns the view. All-wheel drive is recommended year-round and strongly encouraged in winter, and the drive may not be the right fit for anyone uneasy on mountain roads.
