Metcalf Bay is one of the quieter corners of Big Bear Lake, and Lakefront Lodge sits right on it --- a custom cabin with a hundred feet of private shoreline and water views from nearly every room. Out the back door, the lake is simply there: no crossing a road, no hunting for a public access point. Just your own stretch of shore, the water, and the ridgeline rising behind it.
The main level is built around the view. An open floor plan runs from the dining area through a comfortable living room to a pool table set where the lake and mountains fill the windows --- the kind of layout where the game keeps going and nobody has to leave the conversation to play. The gourmet kitchen anchors the other end, fully equipped with high-end appliances, cookware for a real dinner, and breakfast bar seating for the early risers. Sliding glass doors open onto a large deck where the view opens up completely, and the hot tub sits ready for a long soak after a day out.
Below, a second deck stretches along the water with a full 180-degree sweep of the lake. There's a dining table for meals outside, a BBQ for grilling, and enough room to spread out with a coffee in the morning or stay put as the light goes long across the water in the evening.
Holloway's Marina is a short walk down the road --- close enough that a morning on a pontoon boat or an afternoon of fishing takes almost no planning. Big Bear Village is about five minutes by car for shopping, restaurants, and the alpine slide, and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo is an easy detour on the way. When the snow comes, Snow Summit is roughly ten minutes out and Bear Mountain about fifteen, which means a full ski day and a hot tub soak back at the lake before dinner is a perfectly reasonable plan. Summer trades the lifts for hiking, mountain biking, and the Alpine Pedal Path along the north shore.
Lakefront Lodge works the way a lake house should: big enough for the whole group to spread out, close enough to town that nothing feels like a trek, and positioned so the water does most of the entertaining.
